If you are a subscriber to the Gillett Estate Management Suite (GEMS) GEM706 or GEMAcct programs, the EstateVal/GEMS interface can eliminate manual entry of data between the packages.
EstateVal to GEMS
To export an EstateVal portfolio’s pricing data to GEMS, first you’ll need to configure the export file format. Select Tools → Options… → Export, and set Type
to “GEMS”, Path
to the folder you want the data file sent to, and Schedule
to the Form 706 schedule you want the data exported to in GEMS: “B”, “E1”, “E2”, “F”, “G”, “H” or “I”.
Now that EstateVal is configured, enter and evaluate the portfolio as usual and select File → Export → From EstateVal → [Report Type]…
. to export the data. You will be prompted to enter an export file name and click OK
—remember, GEMS requires that you keep it simple: no special characters such as quotes, commas, or less-then or greater-than signs, etc. EstateVal will then show “The portfolio has been exported.”
Now that the data has been exported from EstateVal, you can import it into either GEM706 or GEMAcct. To do so, open the appropriate GEMS program, and then open the relevant client file. Select Utilities → EVP Pricing Interface
. Click Import existing EVP portfolio
, select Date of Death
or Alternate Date
, depending on what type of report you exported, enter the file you exported from EstateVal, and then click Transfer
. The securities and their values will be displayed. You can select your File Import Options
, and select or deselect individual items on the results page. To post the values, you’ll need to click Transfer
again.
