When EVP Systems released EVP Office 9.1, there was a new feature included in it that we really loved: Name Preview. We turned it off by default because we wanted to make sure it rolled out smoothly. Changing the main screen of the EVP Office programs is a big deal!
But it’s been six months now, and we were maybe a little too stealthy. Name Preview has only been used by a few dozen clients—and it’s way too cool a feature to leave it hidden like that! So today we are proud to announce the release of EVP Office 9.1.3, with Name Preview turned on by default.
With Name Preview, EstateVal, GiftVal, and CostBasis will show you the names of the securities as you type them into the grid! This is a super-simple way of making sure that you’ve entered what you think you’ve entered. It works with CUSIPs, SEDOLs, tickers, foreign currency, cryptocurrency, shortcuts—anything you can enter into the grid will show its name!
The names will also display after you evaluate the portfolio, and will show for any portfolio you’ve already evaluated and load back into the programs. This makes finding a particular lot as easy as looking for its name.
If you don’t like Name Preview, you can turn it off, by going to Tools → Options… → Standard
and setting “Show Name Preview” to “No”.
EVP Office 9.1.3 also features a big change internally as well: a high-precision math library. Previously, EstateVal, GiftVal, and CostBasis all used the standard math package that comes with Microsoft’s C++ compiler, the computer language the programs are written in. The library is fast and memory-efficient, but because it uses the IEEE 754 standard for floating-point arithmetic, the possibility exists—very, very occasionally—to mis-round numbers, leaving portfolio totals off by a penny. The new library fixes this, allowing effectively infinite precision to be used in the math operations inside the program.
As always, there are other features and fixes included, all listed on the software’s release history page. If you’re not running the latest version, you’re missing out!
